Description:

Axentri contains Maraviroc, a CCR5 antagonist used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs (ART) for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. Unlike other antiretrovirals, Maraviroc works by blocking the CCR5 co-receptor on immune cells, preventing the HIV virus from entering and infecting them. It is effective in patients with CCR5-tropic HIV-1 infections and is usually prescribed when other ART regimens have failed.

Uses:

Axentri is prescribed for:

✔ HIV-1 Infection Treatment – Used as part of combination antiretroviral therapy (ART)
✔ Prevention of HIV Progression to AIDS – Helps maintain immune function
✔ Reduction of Viral Load & Increase in CD4 Count – Supports better long-term health

Dosage & Administration:

• Standard Adult Dose: 300 mg twice daily, taken with or without food.

• Dose Adjustment: May be reduced to 150 mg twice daily when used with strong CYP3A inhibitors or increased to 600 mg twice daily when used with CYP3A inducers.

• Route of Administration: Oral – Swallow whole with water.

• Missed Dose: Take as soon as remembered unless it is close to the next dose—do not double dose.
