Description:
Desirox 500 mg Tablet contains Deferasirox, a medication used to manage iron overload in patients who require regular blood transfusions, such as those with thalassemia, sickle cell disease, or myelodysplastic syndromes. It is also used in patients with ineffective erythropoiesis to treat iron overload in the absence of transfusions.
Deferasirox is an iron chelator that works by binding to excess iron in the body, allowing it to be excreted primarily through urine. This helps prevent the damaging effects of iron accumulation in vital organs such as the liver, heart, and endocrine glands.
Indications:
Desirox 500 mg Tablet is used for the treatment of:
-
Chronic Iron Overload Due to Blood Transfusions: Common in patients with thalassemia major, sickle cell disease, and other conditions that require frequent blood transfusions.
-
Non-Transfusional Iron Overload: For patients with iron overload caused by ineffective erythropoiesis (such as in certain types of anemia) or those without frequent transfusions.
