Description:
Eliquis 5 mg contains Apixaban, an oral anticoagulant (blood thinner) that helps prevent blood clots. It works by inhibiting Factor Xa, an essential protein in the blood clotting process, thereby reducing the risk of stroke, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolism (PE).
Uses:
Eliquis 5 mg is prescribed for:
✔ Prevention of Stroke and Blood Clots in Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) – Used in non-valvular AFib to reduce stroke risk.
✔ Treatment & Prevention of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) – Helps treat and prevent blood clots in the legs.
✔ Treatment & Prevention of Pulmonary Embolism (PE) – Prevents dangerous clots in the lungs.
✔ Post-Surgical Blood Clot Prevention – Used after hip or knee replacement surgery to prevent clot formation.
Dosage & Administration:

Atrial Fibrillation (Stroke Prevention): 5 mg twice daily (adjustments may be needed for certain patients).

DVT/PE Treatment: 10 mg twice daily for 7 days, followed by 5 mg twice daily.

DVT/PE Prevention (after treatment): 2.5 mg twice daily after initial treatment.
