Description
Latanoprost Eye Drops are used to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor (fluid) from the eye, helping to lower eye pressure and prevent optic nerve damage.
Uses
- Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma
- Ocular Hypertension
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended Dose: One drop in the affected eye once daily in the evening
- Do not exceed once daily use – more frequent dosing may reduce effectiveness
- Avoid touching the dropper tip to eye or other surfaces
- Wait 5–10 minutes before applying any other eye medication
Side Effects
Common:
- Eye redness or irritation
- Increased eyelash growth
- Darkening of iris color (may be permanent)
- Eyelid darkening
Rare but Serious:
- Eye pain
- Vision changes
- Swelling or infection
Precautions
- Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting
- Use with caution in patients with uveitis, macular edema, or lens replacement
- Long-term use may lead to permanent iris pigmentation changes
- Not recommended for use in children without prescription
Storage
- Store refrigerated (2–8°C) before opening
- After opening, may be stored at room temperature (below 25°C) for up to 4 weeks
