Description:

Zidovir 300 mg contains Zidovudine, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) used in combination with other antiretroviral medications for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It works by inhibiting the reverse transcriptase enzyme, preventing the virus from replicating and reducing the viral load in the blood. Zidovudine is also used to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV during childbirth.

Uses:

Zidovir 300 mg is prescribed for:

✔ HIV-1 Infection Treatment – Used in combination therapy (ART) to slow disease progression
✔ Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) – Administered during pregnancy and childbirth to reduce transmission risk
✔ Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) – May be used to prevent HIV infection after exposure

Dosage & Administration:

• For HIV Treatment: 300 mg twice daily (in combination with other antiretrovirals).

• For Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission: Dose varies as per medical guidance.

• For Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP): 300 mg twice daily (as part of a 3-drug regimen for 28 days).

• Route of Administration: Oral – Swallow whole with or without food.

• Missed Dose: Take as soon as remembered unless it is close to the next dose—do not double dose.
